چکیده

This paper presents the Modify-on-Access (MonA) le system, an active le system, that cooperates with processes to accomplish tasks. The MonA le system optimizes critical read and write paths, while simplifying system software and application programs. MonA provides a framework for dynamically pushing and popping modular transformations onto data streams during accesses. We demonstrate that the MonA le system adds considerable functionality for minimal overhead, 3{5% for a null transformation. Furthermore, the MonA le system outperforms a user-space transformation by 5{14%. In the future, devices and will be intelligent, combining processing and memory capabilities into one system. The MonA transformation model is poised to exploit the opportunities presented by these architectural advances.

An access control based on scheme Chinese theorem remainder and time stamp concept

In this paper we propose a new dynamic access control method for the computer system with frequently inserted, deleted and updated users/files. Our method, based on the concepts of the access control matrix, key-lock-pair, time stamp and Chinese remainder theorem, associates each user with a user key and a user lock and each file with a file key and a file lock. Our method can achieve the follo...

Transparent Remote File Access Through a Shared Library Client

This paper presents the implementation of the ORFA client. ORFA aims at providing an efficient access to remote file systems through high-speed local networks such as MYRINET. The ORFA client is a lightweight shared library that may be pre-loaded to override standard file access routines to allow remote file access for any legacy application. In ORFA, virtual file descriptors have been designed...

Ext3cow: The Design, Implementation, and Analysis of Metadata for a Time-Shifting File System

The ext3cow file system, built on Linux’s popular ext3 file system, brings snapshot functionality and file versioning to the open-source community. Our implementation of ext3cow has several desirable properties: ext3cow is implemented entirely in the file system and, therefore, does not modify kernel interfaces or change the operation of other file systems; ext3cow provides a time-shifting inte...

Design and Implementation of Views: Isolated Perspectives of a File System

We present Views, a file system architecture that provides isolation between system components for the purposes of access control, regulatory compliance, and sandboxing. Views allows for discrete I/O entities, such as users, groups, or processes, to have a logically complete yet fully isolated perspective (view) of the file system. This ensures that each entity’s file system activities only mod...

Implementing Byte-Range Locks Using MPI One-Sided Communication

We present an algorithm for implementing byte-range locks using MPI passive-target one-sided communication. This algorithm is useful in any scenario in which multiple processes of a parallel program need to acquire exclusive access to a range of bytes. One application of this algorithm is for implementing MPI-IO’s atomic-access mode in the absence of atomicity guarantees from the underlying fil...
